INEC gets warning on mail-in voting
Chief Jude Nwokike, the Progressive Peoples Congress (PPC) in the 2019 general election, has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to apply mail-in voting with caution.
Nwokike made this known during an interview with newsmen on Saturday in Awka, NAN reports.
He urged the electoral body to be sure of what it intended doing to prevent fraud in the mailing system.
“The INEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu has said that he will be adopting mail-in voting for the forthcoming Anambra election, but I am suggesting that a thorough check should be carried out before adopting it.
"Even the United States that is adopting the process appear to have some issues with the system.
“For outgoing President, Donald Trump to say that there has been a foul play over the system means that here in Nigeria its manipulation can’t be ruled out.
"INEC should do all they can to ensure that the mail-in voters have identification numbers issued to them while having good record of their residence also.
"We all want a better society, and it is only those that have the fear of God in them are capable of making such happen which is why I am still keen on contesting next time,” he added.
